Raw milk v pasteurised milk, let’s discuss.
π In the last 5 years raw milk sales have increased in the UK. This could be due to an upturn in the number of farm vending machines which make the product more available.
π If the hype is to be believed, raw or unpasteurised milk can do everything from boosting your immune system to preventing dairy allergies and improving digestion.
π Lots of us consume milk because we know itβs packed with nutrients and some say that it contains good bacteria too.
π Heating milk in the pasteurisation process kills off micro organisms and the good bacteria as well as the bad.
π The Food Standards Agency advises βraw or unpasteurised milk and cream may contain harmful bacteria that cause food poisoning.β
π Raw milk can only be sold by registered producers directly to customers and must be labelled with a health warning.
π So do you think raw milk is a superfood or a dangerous fad?
Let’s ask an expert. Dairy farmer, Jon Cook.
Jon Cook is a fourth-generation dairy farmer in Wiltshire, south-west England. As a result of his own battles with personal health, he has come to view the welfare of his cows in a completely different light. In spite of the alarmist warnings about its consumption from the industry regulators, Jon produces raw milk for an ever-expanding consumer base, and he spoke to UK Column in a clear and comprehensive manner about the rationale that drives him.
