Part three of our overwintering series - Keeping chickens warm and healthy over a cold winter
- Ensure there is enough bedding in the chicken house for warmth
- Check the water regularly to see if it is frozen
- If grass fed and it’s covered in snow give them greens eg kale, broccoli or spinach
- Collect eggs in the morning in case they freeze in the day
- Give extra corn in their feed to provide them more body warmth
- Attach chicken wire underneath the hen house to prevent rats getting in
- Make sure they can get access to a covered cleaning bed of sand or soil, or use diatomaceous earth in their coop after removing poop
